Obesity is a health condition which emerges in front of aperson if there is an excessive amount of fat in the body which impairs themovement of the person and causes severe health problems. It is generallydetermined by a person's Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a measure of bodyweight that takes into account a person's height.

Impact of Obesity

Obesity is a complex condition that is caused by acombination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. It is defined ashaving a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. Obesity can lead to a range ofhealth problems, including:

·        High blood pressure

·        Sleep Apnea

·        Genetics: Obesity can run in families,suggesting that genetics play a role in the development of the condition.

·        Behaviour: Eating a diet high in calories andlow in nutrients and being physically inactive can lead to weight gain andobesity.

World Obesity Day aims to encourage governments, healthcareproviders, and individuals to take action to prevent and reduce obesity. Theday provides an opportunity to promote healthy eating habits, physicalactivity, and weight management, as well as to raise awareness of the socialand economic consequences of obesity. On this day, various events and activitiesare organized by healthcare organizations, government agencies, and NGOs toraise awareness of the issue and promote healthy lifestyles. These events mayinclude public lectures, health fairs, health screenings, and exercise classes.

Various healthcare organisations and NGOs are determined tospread awareness among people across the world to reduce the number of peoplesuffering from obesity. It can be prevented through various approaches andactivities which include but are not limited to:
